A child loves to conjure their imagination into reality by way of drawing. It may look unimpressive on a technical perspective with its overabundance of color or lack of it, they are children of course, but none can dispute the joy and pride these drawings can bring to their parents. Hanging them is usually all we can do to understand and appreciate their efforts, but it just feels like they deserve more. Thankfully, someone has come up with the idea of turning children’s imagination into reality by way of turning them into real life plush toys. Their drawings may be cute, weird, and seemingly-nonsensical but once converted to craft stuffed toys expertly, and they look super cute and imposing.
Founded in 2013 by Alex Furmansky, Budsies is the company responsible for these inherently cute and impressive plush toys that take children’s creativity into the real world. He has credited this fantastic idea to his younger sister’s drawings and after seeing her little sister Michelle taking her stuffed animals in bed. He thought to himself “What if I could turn a drawing into a stuffed animal friend that would last forever?” Eventually, he took his sister’s drawings, a dog-like creature she named ‘Dongler,’ and turned it into a stuffed plush in South Florida. After that first Budsie, soon came to a lot more.
Their website claims that they have made over 76,000 Budsies already since their inception back on 2013. Several people from all around the world, varying from such lands as Australia and India, have ordered their very own custom pieces. Although the initial premise was to turn children’s drawings into plush toys, soon they have also taken in requests of fanart, people, and pets to be made into cute Budsies as well.
Sooner rather than later, the business branched out and started offering custom plush toys created in the likeness of their customer’s pets. They named it appropriately, ‘Petsies.’ It offers custom-made stuffed animals that can serve as a reflection of people’s pets. We are all amused by a plush doggie and kitty, but imagine how adorable and cool it must be if that is in the image of your very own pet. Isn’t that awesome?
Budsies offers custom plushies that range from the price of $99 and above. The pricing depends on how complex the drawings may be; what type of plushie one requests, its size, and details. These adorable toys can be either made from super soft plush or inclusion of faux fur and custom embroidery.
And if it’s not heartwarming enough, Budsies offer a program called Budsies Pals, wherein they work with several healthcare providers to give free custom Budsies to kids who will benefit a lot from getting a huggable plush toy of their own. Some are from kid’s drawing that unfortunately passed away and has been given to their respective families. This act is just so touching and clearly shows how Budsies genuinely care for the wellbeing of children.
