Why Exactly This Guy Went Viral on Twitter Because of a Bunch of Flowers
Adulting means working and we all know that it is one solid fact that we can’t change or escape. Whether we like it or not, we are all obliged to work and earn money for ourselves. Once we start this journey, there’s definitely no going back. But another reality check, there are only a few people who stays in the same job after several years. All of us get to the point where we want to explore new things. Plus, try other experiences for what we think will give us a better future. It is indeed very exciting to think of working in a new environment and meeting a new bunch of people.
However, we could not also deny the fact that it also poses a little feeling of anxiety, nervousness, and challenge to us. Unfortunately or fortunately, this guy literally had one of the most epic and unexpected happenings in his first day in his new work. Jon Cana, a digital marketer from San Francisco became known as the guy who went viral because of a bunch of flowers. However, he did not felt anxious but rather had the most memorable welcoming first day of work in his life.
Like any other adult, Jon tried to find a new job after he decided that he wanted to make the most out of his career. And this man did not fail. He got the position of a digital-marketer in an advertising agency in San Francisco. He was not really expecting anything else but several awkward looks when he arrived at his new work but what he saw in his table surprised him.
Where it all Started
Jon saw a gift box and a beautifully decorated bouquet of flowers on his desk! He felt really touched from the bottom of his heart. With his delight and excitement, he did not have any second thoughts on getting the wonderful bouquet on his hands. Jon felt as if it’s the best day of his life. He thought that it was the greatest first day he could ever get. Thus, with all smiles, he asked for his manager to take a photo of him with the bouquet in all corners of the office. His coworkers can literally see how happy their new teammate was and let him enjoy the precious bouquet of flowers. Little did he knew, his colleagues have been tempting to tell him a little something about the flowers.
After taking the photos, Jon quickly uploaded it on his Twitter account, writing the caption, “first day feels <3”. This ‘first-day happiness’ lasted for several months until February 9th came. His company held a holiday party for the team and in the middle of waves of laughter, Jon’s teammates finally revealed the truth they have been hiding for him for several months.
Why the Guy Went Viral
The bouquet of flowers was never meant for Jon! It was just misplaced in his table. His company never gave new employees flowers or gifts. They prepared these kinds of gifts, yes, but it is truly meant to their female employees who have to take maternity leave. For a second, Jon could not speak, but moments later, he ended cracking up. He thought that the warm welcome with the bouquet of flowers was a company tradition. Jon never thought that it was misplaced or whatnot. He was too excited in his new job and he never really thought of asking his workmates if it was really for him! On the other hand, his lovely workmates felt really bad of ruining his first day and thus, they end up revealing the truth after almost four months.
Going home, Jon still could not believe the reality about the lovely bouquet of flowers. Thus, he decided to follow-up his first-day of work tweet. “I FOUND OUT THESE FLOWERS WERE MISPLACED ON MY DESK AND SUPPOSED TO BE FOR SOMEONE GOING ON MATERNITY LEAVE BECAUSE THEY DON’T GIVE FLOWERS TO THE NEW HIRES BUT THEY SAW ME TAKING PICS WITH THEM AND FELT TOO BAD TO TAKE THEM AWAY IM CAAAACKLING”
Well, who would not crack up and feel that intense after learning the truth? However, who would have thought that this awkward yet very hilarious situation would turn into some kind of a success story? Only several days later, Jon’s “first day feels” thread in Twitter went viral. Many found his story funny and relatable at the same time. He earned a total of 263k likes and even became famous as the ‘guy went viral because of a bunch of flowers”. Plus, he thought that he’s really right in choosing his profession as an advertiser. “One of the funnier things about this whole story is that I work at media agency where one of the goals of our campaigns is to go viral on the internet… and so I presented my tweet at a team meeting today,”- Jon recently mentioned in his tweet.
Instant Internet Celebrity
Now, one thing’s for sure, Jon is now more known as “flower guy”. Ever since the truth came out, his coworkers did not stop on teasing him. Jon, on the other hand, always ends up laughing his heart out. Just several days ago, he was able to receive a bouquet of roses for real but still, meant as a joke. However, it’s not only his workmates who threw him entertaining reactions but his hundred and thousands of followers too. Just like what this follower named Fangirl Trash said, “This will be your legacy in the company now… you will have to buy a bouquet for a new hire.”
However, it did not stop there. Apparently, Jon, was not alone. Some people also shared their own story, with the exact embarrassing situation happening to them. Jon’s another follower, named, Lisa, Duchess of Netflix said. “One time, I got roses, chocolate and a stuffed bear delivered to me on my birthday and was so excited that I had a ‘secret admirer’ until I read the card and saw they were actually for my neighbor from her ex-husband, trying to win her back.”
In the end, this epic situation did not just bring laughter to many. It even triggered a discussion about whether or not newly hired personnel really need to receive gifts from their company. And one of Jon’s followers made a point in her tweet. “Not a bad idea to give new employees a welcome gift, however. Be a nice gesture of teamwork and appreciation to follow.”
